If your child has difficulty manipulating sounds and playing with words, the chances are, they have difficulty with decoding, blending words, and reading in general.
When kids have a strong foundation in phonological awareness they can hear the individual sounds in words, and understand that words are made of phonemes or sounds and these sounds are made of letters.
Often, kids who struggle to learn to read do not have a solid foundation in phonological awareness, that is they have difficulty hearing and manipulating sounds.
